GUATEMALA CITY

Guatemala City is the capital of Guatemala. It was a small town earlier. The city expanded when the capital of Spanish colonial Central America was shifted here after the destruction of its old capital in 1775. It is now the economic, governmental and cultural capital of the Republic. It is also the largest city of the nation as well as the Central America.



Area & Location: Lies in a mountain valley in the south central part of the country, Guatemala City is located at 148' Latitude North and 903' Longitude West. The city is home to 2,541,581 people.

Tourist Attractions: Being the cultural capital the city holds many cultural and historical architectures.

Transportation: La Aurora International Airport serves the city. The city has 220 miles of narrow guage rail roads. The network of highways help ease the traffic congestion in the city. The Inter-American Highway and Pacific coast highway is a solution to the increasing traffic in the city.

Jardin Botanico - the beautiful garden that has several gorgeous flowers and Torre del Reformador- a 75-meter tall building are the other noticeable spots in the city.
